1984 : Janet Brouwer, 74, died Sunday in her home. Janet Scholten was born April 3, 1910 in Hull, Iowa.
She graduated from Sioux Center, Iowa High School and attended Central College in Pella, Iowa. She taught for a short time at country schools and married Herman Brouwer Aug. 1, 1935 in Hudson.
After marriage the couple farmed in the Hudson and Rock Valley areas. Her husband worked in feed grinding and feed sales, and also ran a gas station. She and her husband lived in Milwaukee, Wis., from 1961-72, then retired and moved to Rock Valley.
For the past two years, she was employed at Hope Haven School for the Handicapped in the grandparent program and as a teacher. She was a member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies Guild of the church. Her husband died Aug. 17, 1977.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley, with burial in the Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hope Haven School for the Handicapped. bron: The Rock Valley Bee van 9-1-1985
