inmemoriam:
2015 : Bert W. Kranenborg, a kind, committed, faithful servant of the Lord, passed from this life to the next as winter passed into spring on March 20, 2015. Born in Appingedam, Netherlands, on March 9, 1924, Bert immigrated to Canada with his bride in 1952, and they eventually settled in Kalamazoo in 1956. Though he had limited opportunity for formal education, Bert was gifted with an amazing ability to create and repair. By day he served as a master auto technician at DeNooyer Chevrolet for 34 years before retiring in 1986. For years, both during and after his career, he repaired cars in his home garage. Later in life, he took on the creative hobby of woodworking, crafting wall hangings he’d sell at craft shows. His warm personality endeared him to all he encountered at every stage of his life. Bert was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings in the Netherlands. He is survived by his wife, Ann, of 63 years; his children, Andy and Sandy Kranenborg, Harriet and Dirk Buursma; Debbie and Phil Hall, and Linda and Dwayne Betcher; along with grandchildren, Brian and Miranda Kranenborg, Amy Kranenborg, and Steven and Krysta Kranenborg, and great-grandchild, Kenna Kranenborg; Paul Buursma, Nate Buursma, and Abby Buursma; Justin Hall and Zachary Hall; and Joe and Katie Betcher, and Alisha and Chad Morris. Family visitation will take place from 5-8 PM on Monday, March 23, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. A service celebrating Bert’s faith and life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 24, at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd. Following a luncheon at church, interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Second CRC or to the charity of your choice.
