2012 : Selina (Sally) Cole passed away on May 27, 2012 at the age of 97. Selina Marjorie Broene Cole was born on December 18, 1915 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Harm and Maggie (Neinhuis) Broene. Sally grew up with her older sister, Eleanor, and her younger sister, Harriet. She spent many happy hours of her childhood in her Dad’s hardware store. She graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High in 1933. Sally then went on to work at Farley’s Dry Goods, Standard Oil, and Keeler Brass for the next decade. Her days were spent with work, tennis, and many outings to Lake Michigan. She was a member of the Y Club and the Basket Club. During these years Sally was corresponding with her Pen Pal in Montana. On a trip to Montana to visit her Pen Pal, she was introduced to John Cole. After a time of long distance romance, Sally married John Cole in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 29, 1948. Jon and Sally built a home on "Coles Corner" between Manhattan and Churchill and lived there until they moved to the Churchill Retirement Home in 1995. Sally adapted readily to her role as a farmer’s wife, working tirelessly to feed field crews, raise she her family, and serve on committees at Bethel Christian Reformed Church & Manhattan Christian School. She was an excellent cook, baker, and flower gardener. There were always fresh baked goods and freshly cut flower arrangements in her home. In later years Sally worked in downtown Bozeman at the Woolworth lunch counter, and then as a cook at the Churchill Retirement Home. Following John and Sally’s retirement, they were able to enjoy many wonderful trips together. Sally was a woman who was unwavering in her trust in God. Through the hardships of her life, her faith stood firm. Sally was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eleanor and her husband, Harry Walcott; sister, Harriet, and her husband, Henry Haveman; brother-in-law, Garrett Cole; and sister’s-in-law, Liz Cole and Tina Cole; brother-in-law, Walter Cole and his wife, Nellie Cole; her husband, John Cole in 1997; her daughter, Kathy Braaksma, in 2009; and her grandson, Kristopher Braaksma, in 1998. Sally is survived by her children, Kelvin Cole, Karen Boegli, Tim Cole, and son-in-law, Bob Braaksma; grandchildren, Callie (Steve Merlino) of Big Sky, Corey (Sherry) Donahue of Three Forks, and Dustin and Alisha Cole; great-grandchildren, Soby Rain Haarman, Stephen and Timothy Merlino, Kiera Donahue and Tristen Donahue, and Bernard and Pearl Cole of Manhattan Montana. Graveside Services will be held at 10am Thursday, May 31, at Churchill Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at 11am at Bethel Christian Reformed Church. bron: FindAGrave
