1948 : Funeral services for Mrs. J.H. Groeneweg, 66, were held at the Netherlands Reformed church on Tuesday afternoon, November 30, with Rev. JohnVan Zweden officiating. The services were held at 12:30 p.m. at the home and at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial was made in the Valley View Cemetery. She passed way Saturday afternoon, November 27, from a heart attack suffered at her home. Mrs. Elizabeth Groeneweg (nee Brouwer) was born in the Netherlands on May 27, 188[2]. At the age of six she came to the United States with her father, four sisters, and three brothers. She lived in the vicinity of Orange City until her marriage to Johannes Groeneweg on March 19, 1902. From that place they moved to Middleburg, living there for three years. They came to Rock Valley in 1905. To this union nine children were born, eight of them still living. They are Paul, John, Adrianne (Mrs. Ray Boer), Peter, Walter of Hull, Gertrude (Mrs. Henry Elbers) and Joe, who is still at home with his mother, and Richard. She was preceded in death by one son, who died at the age of six months, and her husband, who died 12 years ago. In addition to her eight children, she leaves to mourn one brother, Reindert Brouwer of Rock Valley; one sister, Mrs. Hilda Kroese of Hull; two half-brothers and two half-sisters. bron: Rock Valley Bee 1948-12-02. |
