: Femmetje "Femmy" Eenkhoorn, was born the daughter of Willem and Aaltje (van Soest) Eenkhoorn, on May 21, 1922 at Weesp, The Netherlands. She was raised and attended school in Holland. During WW II she worked as a nurse and also for the Allied underground. Femmy and her family hid a family of Polish Jews behind a false wall in their home during the war.
She was united in marriage with Romke van der Wal on September 23, 1950 in Amsterdam. They immigrated to the United States in 1956 and became citizens in 1964. The couple lived in various places before settling in southern Florida. Femmy thoroughly enjoyed working in a consignment clothing store for many years. Femmy had a feisty spirit and had a deep appreciation for all things chocolate. Above all, her love of God, her faith, and her family were most important to her. Romke preceded her in death on November 2, 2010.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Renata (Duane) Smith, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Alexis (Matthew) Hilbelink, Salt Lake City, UT, Derek (Ashleigh) Smith, Sioux Falls, SD, Hilary Smith, Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA, Colin Smith, Sioux Falls, SD; and four great grandchildren, Aiden, Kaitlyn, and Kristy Hilbelink, and Emma Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at George Boom Funeral Home following the committal service.
