1992 : Gordon M. Ford, 1601 Lakeway Dr., passed away Wed May 20, 1992 in Bellingham. Born at Pilot Point, Alaska he grew up on Lummi IsIand, graduated from Bellingham High School and from WWU. From 1945 to 1947 he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight engineer, an experience that fostered a lifelong interest in WWIl history. He became a high school band director in the Lynden and Mt Baker School Districts, retiring in 1982 after his bands had been award winners in parades from Nanaimo to Disneyland and had provided the community with numerous entertaining performances. An involved member of BPOE Lodge #104, he was also a member of the Washington Federation of Clubs and Bellingham Wheel & Keel; former president of Mt. Baker Education Association; and life member of the American Federation of Musicians. Mr. Ford thoroughly enjoyed salmon fishing and booting, having spent nearly 40 years as a reef net fisherman. He was an original member and eventual leader of the Blue Notes, an 8 piece dancĀ·e band that played area clubs and specially events for many years. Survivors indude his wife Marcia, at home; son Vincent and wife Theresa of Bakersfield CA; sister Doris Newland of Edmonds; a grandson, and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.A. and Nyleptha, Ford, and a daughter Claudette Ford. Memorial service is pIanned for 2 PM. Saturday, may 30 at the Bellingham EIks Lodge #194, 333 Squalicum pkwy. Arrangements are with Bleitz Funeral home of Seattle. Memorials are suggested to the Music Department of tbe Mt.
