2001 : Jennie Brouwer, 93, of Rock Valley died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley. Services were held on Thursday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. Roger Sparks officiated. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Jennie was bom Feb. 21,1908, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Feite and Winnie (Lockhorst) Pollema. She married John Brouwer on Dec. 29, 1937, at Hull. The couple lived in Rock Rapids, then moved to Artesia, Calif. They returned to Iowa and farmed near George. Mr. Brouwer died April 9, 1949. She continued to live on the farm until 1961 when she moved to Rock Valley and was employed at Valley Manor for many years. Mrs. Brouwer was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Faith Circle and she was a volunteer at Valley Manor. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Richard John and Shirley of Lakewood, Calif., Faynor Don and Jane of Rock Valley and Herman Glen and Libby of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters and their husbands, Willie and John Van Schepen of Bellflower, Calif, and Gertrude Jane and Marvin Dekkers of Tempe, Ariz.; a brothers and his wife, Bill and Tena Pollema of Hull; a sister, Wilma Vink of Orange City; a sister-in-law, Margaret Pollema of Rock Valley; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Simon, Peter and Sibolt; and four sisters, Anna Schuurman, Gertrude Van Sloten, Winnie Vollink and Alice Steenhoven. bron: Sioux County Capital Democrat 2001-08-02.
