1970 : Sam Van Voorst, 59, of Spencer, died Sunday, Nov, 22 in the Spencer Hospital of failing health and injuries received in a car accident five and a half years ago. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 25, 10:00 a.m. in the Warner Funeral Home of Spencer and at 2:00 p.m. in the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley with the Rev. Albert M. Moss officiating. Organist, Mrs. George Van Beek, Jr., accompanied John Vande Kerk, soloist, during "My Jesus as Thou Wilt" and the congregational singing of two songs. Pallbearers were nephews. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery under the direction of Porter Funeral Home. Mr. Van Voorst was born on Oct. 2, 1911 at Sioux Center. He married Eva Brouwer on March 8, 1935 at Rock Valley. He started the Van Voorst Transfer in Rock Valley in 1937 and bought the trucking business in Spencer and moved there in 1964. He was a former member of Western Christian School Board, Rock Valley Town Council, Calvin Christian Reformed Church Consistory and a member of the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Survivors are his wife; three sons, James of Spencer, Harlan of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Ronald of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. John (Elaine) De Ruyter, and Mrs. Henry (Glenda) Yager of Spencer; three brothers, William of Orange City, Maurice of Ft. Myer, Fla., and James of Hull; four sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Hoogendorn of Rock Valley, Mrs. Marie Vander Stouwe of Orange City, and Mrs. Henrietta Vonk of Ireton and Mrs. Jeanette Van Den Top of Hull. bron: Rock Valley Bee 1970-11-26.
