2020 : Obituary for Marilyn Wells-DeHerrera

Marilyn Ann Wells-DeHerrera, 85 Sutton - Marilyn Ann Wells-DeHerrera died on March 1, 2020 at Markarios Assisted Living in Aurora, Colorado following a long illness. Marilyn was born September 27, 1934 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of Charles Henry Wells III and Evelyn Etta (Hill) Wells. She grew up in Sutton and graduated from Sutton Memorial High School in 1952. Marilyn married Alfred Shaw of Whitinsville, Massachusetts in 1955. Being an Army wife, she moved nineteen times in twenty years between Europe, the Far East, and both coasts of the United States. It wasn’t until his retirement in 1971 that they settled down in Vista, California. There, in 1973, Marilyn earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) degree from Mira Costa College in Oceanside, California, and worked for Scripps Hospital until her retirement in 1995. Marilyn enjoyed those years, visiting with her mother who lived nearby and spending time with her young grandchildren. In 1997, Marilyn moved to Bloomfield, New Mexico to live near her daughter Beth and son-in-law Ted, who is a petroleum engineer. While there, she met and married Marshall C. DeHerrera, a building contractor, in 2000. They moved to Overgaard, Arizona to live a quiet life of retirement in the mountains among the Ponderosa Pines they enjoyed so much. Her happiness was cut short by the death of Marshall in 2002. Marilyn continued living in Overgaard, taking daily walks with her dog Alice until 2012, when, due to failing health, she moved to Aurora, Colorado to once again be near her daughter and son-in-law. Her love of the land found expression in hiking and looking for interesting rocks in the desert and mountains with Beth. Marilyn’s other joy was shopping in antique, clothing, and jewelry stores. So much so, that she adopted the motto, "Shop until you drop!"
