van 1914 tot 2004: Effie was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Den Besten) Ravestein. She was raised in the Orange City area. On January 31, 1935, she married Raymond Vander Meulen at Orange City. They farmed at Middleburg for seven years and at Newkirk for two years. They then moved to a farm east of Orange City. In 1970, they semi-retired to Alton. "Ray" passed away on June 21, 1992, in Sioux City. In 1994, Mrs. Vander Meulen moved into Orange City. She became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in July of 1999. In May of 2003, she transferred to the Heritage House Nursing Home. She was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the women’s activities. In earlier years, Mr. and Mrs. Vander Meulen belonged to the Middleburg Christian Reformed Church. Effie was active in fund raising activities for the Monica Society She enjoyed making rugs and quilts and was known for her delicious apple pies. Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Nelvia and Dick Vander Vegte of Peoria, Arizona; her son and his wife, Myron "Mike" and Peggy Vander Meulen, of Orange City; a granddaughter and her husband, Michelle "Shelly" and Kevin Van Peursem, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey, and Devin Van Peursem.
