van 1885 tot 1965: Funeral services were held last week Wednesday afternoon at the First Chr. Ref. church for Mrs. John Vander Meulen. 79, nee Nellie Kuiken, who passed away Monday, March 1. Rev. H. Roelofs was in charge of the services and burial was made in the Orange City cemetery.
Mrs. Vander Meulen was born in the Netherlands on June 26, 1885 and came to this area, where she spent most of her life.
She married John Vander Meulen on March 7, 1907. The couple resided at Sioux Center and later farmed near Orange City until 21 years ago when they retired to Orange City.
Surviving are 1 son, Ray Vander Meulen of Orange City and 1 daughter, Gladys, Mrs. Ray Smeenk of Harrisburg, S.D., 1 sister, Mrs. Jno. A. Brink of Orange City, 3 brothers, Gerrit Kuiken of Orange City, Frank Kuiken of Maurice and Martin Kuiken of Sioux Center. John Nelson Smeenk, grandson of the departed, died in January, 1965. bron: Alton Democrat van 11-3-1965
